This book pleasantly surprised me. The MM genre has many rockstar romances, many are good, but Jamison and Vance’s story gives a fresh take on the sub-genre.

Jamison and Vance had a romance in their teens, before Jamison chose his Bandmates and the bands success over his love for Vance.

Vance has taken 6 years to come to terms with Jamison leaving him with just a note.  But if he is honest, he has not really got over Jamison at all. Hence his career choice of working at a publicity firm that works with Maxim’s label.

Though there is plenty of angst between the characters, the story mood overall is upbeat.

Maxim is on the cusp of the topflight of the music world.  Jamison has reluctantly got himself in a situation of having a fake girlfriend, as a distraction for the press from a troubled bandmate.

Their biggest problem is that when Jamison realises, he still loves Vance, pretending to be dating the fake girlfriend gets so much more difficult, especially when she believes their relationship is real.

There is one big surprise towards the end of the book. about the whole situation Jamison is in. Something I did not see coming.

So, these two guys must navigate a fake girlfriend, a demanding label boss, and a larger-than-life co-worker and Vance’s boss, oh and all while they are confined on a tour bus.

I really connected with both Vance and Jamison, and felt bad for both, it seems like time and opportunity is not on their side, either in the past or present. Yes, at times I wanted to bang their heads together and tell them to stop being idiots.  But it is always easier on the outside looking in.

The author has done an excellent job of creating a story that really draws you in from the start.  And characters that you can not help but root for.  The supporting cast is as strong as the two main characters, with plenty of hints of the next few books stories.

As I mentioned at the start of my review, this is a pleasant surprise read.  I will be watching out for the other books in the series.
