The author paints a vivid masterpiece with their words. Set in the 1700’s A time where your destiny decided by the class you were born into, and a time where love between two men forbidden.
We follow Luke a young farmers son, who has taken on some of the responsibility of the farm due to his father’s ill health, leaves little time for Luke to enjoy himself. So, when Jem his childhood best friend and the man Luke secretly loves returns to his father’s country estate, their secret love rekindled.
We see Luke struggle when he must watch Jem with young eligible women at the summer balls. Knowing they will never be able to truly be an open couple. He also struggles to deal with all the other differences between them until Jem volunteers to help Luke and his father harvest the fields. After they have finished harvesting, they have a heart to heart, and they share their feelings for each other.
I like the way the author portrayed both characters and their love for one another. Especially that their different classes did not affect their love and friendship. It is a warm cosy romantic rustic read, full of summer fields and dances.
