Interview With E. M. Hamill

E.M. Hamill welcome to the cafe and thanks for stopping by to answer a few questions.

What was the hardest part of writing this book?

2020 through 2022. Seriously, I think as a planet, we all need therapy now!

My family and I suffered two very close personal losses in eighteen months. Grief is a difficult thing for my creativity to rise above and writing at times was like prying each letter out of concrete. I’m proud I got the book out of my head and finished this series arc, but at the same time, I’m utterly exhausted. Third Front is dedicated to the memory of my mother, who passed away in June 2022.

What’s your drink of choice?

I am a diet Coke-aholic.  I know how bad it is for me but I can’t live without it. The other thing I live on is iced coffee, with milk and a little sweetener. There’s a 2-liter water bottle on my desk at work for my day job as a nurse, and I try to drink all of it during the day. Some days I do better than others. The diet Coke and coffee always gets slurped to the dregs.

What food(s) fuel your writing?

I subsist on coffee, diet Coke, pizza, or Chinese take-out, and Double Stuf Oreos during my first drafts, LOL. Editing time usually means I can cook and eat better dinners and drink water like I’m supposed to.

Would you rather be in a room full of snakes or a room full of spiders?

If they are non-venomous, I would much rather be in a room full of snakes. Snakes are cool, and you don’t usually find them in your bed. Spiders, on the other hand, are evil bastards. I have a rule I tell spiders out loud: if they stay outside, they get to live. If they are on my wall, ceiling, floor, or in my bathtub, they are toast.

It has been a pleasure chatting with you. Thanks for taking time out from your busy schedule.
